I just found a cool new website,
ispott. They describe it as:
ispott is a mobile scavenger hunt game played with cell phone cameras.
Quickly find the items, take your best shots and compete with people
around the world.
Everyday they set new challenges for things to find, with points value being assigned to each item you find, snap and submit. The goal of the game is to rack up as many points as possible. Users can also comment and rate the photos themselves. You can even put the content on your myspace, blog or website.
I love the idea of integrating the power of the net with the real world, and this is a great example. I think 3 had a similar game out before for their phones. The orienteering people have been doing it online for ages, posting up GPS co-ordinates and pictures. So have the viral marketing people, getting people to put logos in public places and take photos, and then post them for everyone to see. I hope these guys will keep growing, it looks like it has an awesome interface and already has a decent community.
Here's something to occupy me on my boring bus and train rides...
