Oracle Linux adopters labelled 'idiots'."Melbourne company Opes Prime Stockbroking told ZDNet Australia that in the weeks following its announcement to adopt Oracle Linux, upset Linux enthusiasts phoned, e-mailed and wrote about the company online to complain at the decision.
"People called us out of the blue to tell us we were idiots," said Opes executive director Anthony Blumberg.
Linux enthusiasts also slammed the company on bulletin board systems
across the world. Most believed the Oracle offering to be inferior to
Red Hat's, a vendor that has been at the forefront of Linux's gaining
popularity."
This has made my day seriously. For god's sake, people understand Linux as Linux. It's hard enough getting them to understand that, why make it even more difficult by fighting between distributions? You'll never win the battle against the 'evil one' if you keep fighting amongst yourselves. Cull your egos, save the fanaticism for your Linux sex parties, and work together. And hopefully the dickhead Stallman heading the oh-so-official Free Software Foundation would shut up and disappear too (he seems to get worse with age) - its for your own good.
I know there are heaps of great, normal, rational people doing cool Linux stuff, but somehow, these fanatics always seem to grab attention and cast a bad light on the whole Linux and sometimes the wider open-source movement.
And until they work out their issues, Microsoft doesn't really have to worry about Linux yet - the Mac battle is much more fierce and worrying for them.
P.S. Why haven't any of the computer companies started creating Windows laptops that ooze sex like MacBooks? Sony is probably the only one close with their Vaio range, but even they don't do a very good job. Even if it's for a premium, I reckon there's a market, and it'll help Windows win back market share - seriously, I know so many people who bought MacBooks simply because they look cool, with the sleek design, the glowing Apple logo, and simplistic look. The change to Mac OSX was secondary. Hell, I've heard of people who bought a MacBook only to install Boot Camp and Windows on it as soon as they start it up, rarely booting into OSX!
