hi there!
I see you've stumbled on to my humble home on the net, Drive:Activated. My name's Sam, I'm an ambitious and driven uni student, residing in Melbourne, Australia, wanting to make my mark on our world. This is my site, which is mainly just my blog and some other bits. There's no definite theme to my blog, just anything that interests me, and currently that's web trends, startups, ideas and cool stuff. Check it out, leave me a comment, click on 'Who is this?' to find out more about me, or drop me a line by clicking on 'Let's Talk'. Hope you enjoy it!

-
- Apple and Google working on projects together. Oooh, guess Apple needed something to keep the iPhone hype up. But seriously, two big, innovative, secretive, market-leading companies working together could prove to be a very powerful alliance, and bad news for their competitors, namely Yahoo! and Microsoft. Maybe Yahoo! and Microsoft should 'work together' too - that would be quite interesting.
- The OpenMoko guys got their open-source phone prototype working. Good work guys, looking forward to seeing the final thing.
- Free Xbox Live Gold this weekend! Thanks to the release of GRAW2, Australia and NZ Silver members are getting a free ride again. Maybe I'll dust off my 360 and see if it still boots this weekend...
- Sony's catching up with the trends with Playstation Home. Playstation Home is like The Sims crossed with Second Life - its a 3D environment where you can control your own character, socialise, decorate your personal area, and generally hang out with your mates like you do in real life. The speech bubbles in the link make me wonder whether it supports voice chat, but maybe that'll come in a later revision. It's something neither the Xbox or Wii has, and given how much Second Life has taken off, Sony could well be on to something big. Is it enough to get people to splash out 1 grand? Maybe not, but it makes it easier to swallow.
- Planning a grog-fuelled party? You're gonna need the kegulator. What is it? It's a calculator that tells you how much beer, ice and cups you need depending on how many people you plan on having, and here's the cool bit - what state your party buddies will leave in. So you can pick how many will be tipsy, buzzed, drunk or hammered and it'll adjust for it. It even accounts for beer spillage, ice evaporation, and cup breakage! Techcrunch has currently killed the site I think - I can't connect to it, but it'll probably be up again by the time you read this, so check it out and bookmark it - internationalization improvements are coming apparently (e.g. kgs instead of pounds).
UPDATE:
Google seems to be looking for logic and analog designers to design 'wireless communication systems'. Hmm, doesn't Apple have enough already? Maybe the Apple/Google partnership isn't a phone or a device, but something else...
