hi there!
I see you've stumbled on to my humble home on the net, Drive:Activated. My name's Sam, I'm an ambitious and driven uni student, residing in Melbourne, Australia, wanting to make my mark on our world. This is my site, which is mainly just my blog and some other bits. There's no definite theme to my blog, just anything that interests me, and currently that's web trends, startups, ideas and cool stuff. Check it out, leave me a comment, click on 'Who is this?' to find out more about me, or drop me a line by clicking on 'Let's Talk'. Hope you enjoy it!

In the Honda Civic that is basically mine, I've finally hit the 10000km mark! To give you an idea how much I don't like driving, the expected 10000km service date was December 2006. Yes, it's nearly 6 months past before I actually made 10000km.

Why don't I like driving? Well,
- It's boring. I dunno, maybe there's something wrong with my internal wiring, but I just don't get the thrills of hooning down a 60km/h road at 120km/h, or evading cops, or doing crazy slides and spins (though some are pretty awesome). I would love to go off-road four-wheel driving though.
- It means no alcohol, and we all know how entertaining alcohol can be. Ok, I could drink and drive, and unfortunately I know people that do, but I think that sets a bad precedent for me if I do that. Besides, I doubt I'd be able to hold a straight face if the cops caught up.
- It means I have to drive others home. Ok, maybe I'm a bit selfish here because mates drive me home all the time, and I'm out in whoop-whoop by comparison, but see point 1.
- It's frustrating. The number of people who drive 10km/h or more below the speed limit with no traffic in sight infuriates me. And they don't come alone either, they usually exist in groups, side-by-side. Read the signs people! Don't get me started on city driving...
That said, the freedom I get from it is huge, especially when you need to go out at night, and no one else will drive you. All other times though, if public transport works, or if I can scam a ride, I'm there.
