I see you've stumbled on to my humble home on the net, Drive:Activated. My name's Sam, I'm an ambitious and driven uni student, residing in Melbourne, Australia, wanting to make my mark on our world. This is my site, which is mainly just my blog and some other bits. There's no definite theme to my blog, just anything that interests me, and currently that's web trends, startups, ideas and cool stuff. Check it out, leave me a comment, click on 'Who is this?' to find out more about me, or drop me a line by clicking on 'Let's Talk'. Hope you enjoy it!

Chaser's back!

   Filed under:

Just heard on Triple M on the way home that The Chaser's WAR on Everything's back on the ABC! (Actually, it came back on air last week, but didn't realise it until today.) It's the best news satire show on Australian FTA ever. The pranks, the parodies, the video snippets, the witty remarks, everything. In fact I think it's the only one because the commercial networks are too afraid of legal worries to do anything similar.

It's on at 9pm Wednesdays on ABC, with the episode available for download for free after at their site (although it's apparently an Australian only link - can't tell whether they enforce that or not). It's good the ABC tries someone out like this, without encumberances. Then again, I guess they don't have commercial interests to worry about.

For those who don't know who they are, check it out tonight - it's a funny half-hour show, no ads. You'll either love it or hate it, but you won't know until you check it out.

If you're familar with tech news and digg, you probably would have seen the prank they did at a Dell store in Sydney about their exploding batteries. Unfortunately, the ABC reported it as a copyright violation and the video's not on youtube anymore... Other pranks of there's are on youtube though, just search for chaser.

P.S. Wil Anderson's on Triple M now! Awesome funny guy, drive time, 4-6pm. Not a big fan of Triple M's music so I haven't remembered to switch over yet, but from his past gigs on The Glasshouse (which got axed by the ABC Angry), it should be a great show, especially when you're extremely frustrated in traffic. Podcasted as well of course.

okay, so you can tell i've been reading your blog... backwards... ;)  I love it! And you talk about a lot of things I like hearing about, so you can bet its bookmarked. And yes! its bookmarked rather than RSS-ed because you said you like comments... And RSS kills interaction, right? ;)

LOL, just caught this on Mashable!

"...it’s a prank that worked for a 15 year old from Perth, Australia, who sent a signed form to YouTube pretending to be from the Australian Broadcasting Company. The form requested the takedown of hundreds of clips from “The Chaser’s War on Everything”.

YouTube not only reacted, but sent warnings to all the uploaders saying their accounts would be deleted if they persisted."

So that's why I couldn't get any of them on YouTube... smartarse kid. Great publicity though, and I won't be surprised if I see the kid on Chaser soon.
