hi there!

I see you've stumbled on to my humble home on the net, Drive:Activated. My name's Sam, I'm an ambitious and driven uni student, residing in Melbourne, Australia, wanting to make my mark on our world. This is my site, which is mainly just my blog and some other bits. There's no definite theme to my blog, just anything that interests me, and currently that's web trends, startups, ideas and cool stuff. Check it out, leave me a comment, click on 'Who is this?' to find out more about me, or drop me a line by clicking on 'Let's Talk'. Hope you enjoy it!

Simple but cool: Twittervision

Twitter's been getting a lot of publicity recently, thanks to the massive coverage in the various tech conferences that have been going on the last few weeks. If you don't know what twitter is, it's essentially microblogging - the basic premise is that you keep updating what you're currently doing via the site or SMS, in 160 characters or less, and everyone keeping track of you will know. Extremely simple idea, but I can see why its so addictive - it takes so much more effort to write a blog post, then trying to create a catchy subject title (which I'll admit, I suck at).

Someone's taken twitter though, and mapped all the member's locations on to google maps, resulting in twittervision! Everytime someone twitters, the message is pinned to where you currently are on Google Maps, and it continually updates itself. Apparently it only took the guy 4 hours in Rails to do it - pretty amazing stuff (but then again, its an ongoing project, so he's probably spent more time on it to get it to the stage its at right now).

Simple idea, great execution. He may not make any money from it, but I'm sure he's gained a lot of cred.
