http://scobleizer.com/2006/12/22/seagates-ceo-apologizes-for-porn-comments/Geez, where's the sense of humour at Seagate's Minneapolis office? The original quote from
Fortune (apparently taken out of context) was, "
Let's face it, we're not changing the
world. We're building a product that helps people buy more crap - and
watch porn."
Yeh it's a bit controversial, but it was obviously a joke. Out of context or not, I think most people would've recognised it as a joke, but even if they didn't and thought he was condoning pornography, I'd be a bit shocked and would read the article just to confirm my theory. Reading the article would've cleared it up. Or maybe self-deprecating humour just isn't their thing...
The conservative/humourless elements in Seagate seem to have an awful lot of power - I guess its what happens when you head a large corporate company with many layers. On the positive side, I guess its good to see the CEO responding to his employees' concerns. Even so, that quote will live on, and the attention garnered is priceless.
Can't we all stop taking everything so seriously and have some fun? It is the festive season after all...
