hi there!

I see you've stumbled on to my humble home on the net, Drive:Activated. My name's Sam, I'm an ambitious and driven uni student, residing in Melbourne, Australia, wanting to make my mark on our world. This is my site, which is mainly just my blog and some other bits. There's no definite theme to my blog, just anything that interests me, and currently that's web trends, startups, ideas and cool stuff. Check it out, leave me a comment, click on 'Who is this?' to find out more about me, or drop me a line by clicking on 'Let's Talk'. Hope you enjoy it!

I'd love to be able to STIRR things up

The inaugural STIRR dinner was held on the 6th December in Sydney - a gathering of Australians (those remaining in Australia...) involved in the next gen web. It was the who's who of Australian web 2.0, with the guys from Tangler, Remember the Milk, Atlassian, Student Facebluepulse and more attending.

Cam Reilly has put together a short clip of interviews on his g'day world podcast, direct link: http://gdayworld.thepodcastnetwork.com/2006/12/08/gday-world-video-edition-stirr-sydney-dec-2006/. Its well worth checking out, if only to see a bunch of nerds behaving badly Stick out tongue. NSFW - language.

Damn, it would've been awesome to be there and mingle - they're probably the up-and-coming movers and shakers of Australia's developing IT innovation industry. The next big thing could well be coming out from them.

One day, one day, I'll be there with the funky new web 2.5 app that's gonna kickarse and every one's gonna be addicted to it...fingers crossed Big Smile.

P.S. no, I didn't just make up the web 2.5 buzzword - google it. Essentially, rather than you sitting in front of the computer in order to use cool web apps/content, you're gonna be able to access it via your always-on net to always-on-you devices. Its definitely gonna be the next big thing.

If I had my way, computers as you know them will disappear, and instead you will be surrounded by tiny computer terminals (all nicely designed and integrated in to your surroundings - no more ugly windows boxes anymore) all performing individual tasks, available anywhere, and all being in-the-loop with each other, with access to all your content - article, music, video, podcasts etc. - in a fast, secure, managed, orderly fashion. Now finally, we'd be able to do anything, anywhere, anytime. What 3 and Telstra are doing is a start, but there's a LOT more that can be done.

Hey Mick, the tangler secrecy is killing me, and your latest christmas post with the beta tester comments aren't helping either, grrrr. People giving up MSN, finding their true love, tangling 24/7... geez, you guys must be on to something revolutionary.

Unfortunately I'm in Melbourne, so the sydney events are out of the question, unless I so happen to be there at the right time. Speaking of barcamps though, barCampMelbourne sounds interesting...

No probs, I'll put you on my non-existent, yet-to-be-created mailing list for my still-in-my-head, yet-to-materialise web 2.5/3.0 idea :-P
